Here’s our weekly round-up, giving you a quick update on the latest and most interesting campaigns in the world of ecommerce and digital marketing.

Whatsapp Doing Business

In order to keep up with ever-changing technology, Whatsapp has been testing a new app which connects businesses and customers. The standalone app, aptly named ‘Whatsapp Business’ has a goal of expanding small to medium businesses.
Within this app, customers are able to check their contact’s profile to see what type of account they are using. When chatting with businesses there are three different categories a business can be and customers can see this by viewing their profile. These accounts are as follows;

  • Verified. WhatsApp has verified that an authentic brand owns this account. A verified account has a green checkmark badge in its profile.
  • Confirmed. WhatsApp has confirmed that the phone number of this account matches the phone number for this business. A confirmed account has a gray checkmark badge in its profile.
  • Business account. This account is using the WhatsApp Business app, but hasn’t been confirmed nor verified by WhatsApp. A business account has a gray question mark badge in its profile.

With Whatsapp having over a billion monthly active users it’s fair to say this business app has lots of potential!

Online Holiday Spends so Far…

It’s clear to see that Christmas shopping is in full swing with online sales. Adobe’s data released last week shows that between November 1st and December 5th sales are up by 14.7%. In real money, that’s over $65 billion!
During this period, 32% of consumers have purchased their festive treats on their mobile devices (10% of those on tablets), and 68% via desktops!

The grand total spending by December 31st is predicted to reach $107.4 billion. However, Christmas falling on a Monday may have an impact on this with last-minute shoppers rushing to the shops on the Saturday and Sunday before the big day, as opposed to shopping online.

Coca Cola Christmas

It’s a given that holiday adverts are popular at this time of year, however, Coca-Cola has taken this a step further and created a three and a half minute advert, it’s like a mini festive movie!
It’s a classic romance, with a Christmas twist. Boy meets girl and tells her he’s got a 30-foot Christmas tree, as you do. She then calls his bluff, and the boy seems defeated.
However, Santa Claus steps in to help him win the girl and save Christmas all in one night. This advert really gets you in the festive mood, so give it a watch!

Don’t forget that the #SaleCycleSanta Twitter competition finishes on the 18th so this is your last chance to tell us your favourite song to be entered to win a Sonos One speaker!
That’s all for this week, be sure to come back next week for more of the latest in digital marketing and ecommerce…
